A saree is forgiving. A blouse is not. It is the most structurally demanding garment in an Indian wardrobe — fitted at the bust, the shoulder and the armhole simultaneously — and it is the piece that decides whether an outfit looks considered or improvised. Every blouse we make is drafted from measurements taken in our Kankurgachi studio.
Most blouse disappointments come from the same three places: an armhole cut too low, a shoulder seam sitting off the shoulder point, and a bust dart in the wrong position. None of these are fabric problems. They are pattern problems, and they are the reason we draft individually rather than adjusting a standard block.
A correctly drafted blouse lets you raise your arms without the whole garment lifting. That single test tells you more about construction quality than any amount of embroidery.
Our atelier does hand embroidery, three-dimensional floral beadwork and sequin work in house. On a blouse this matters more than on any other garment, because the work sits at eye level and close to the face. Motifs can be placed deliberately — along a neckline, concentrated at the shoulder, running down a sleeve — rather than repeated uniformly across the fabric.
Embellished blouses take longer: four to six weeks against two to four for a plain bespoke blouse. Plan accordingly if it is for a specific date.
Blouses are fitted on the body before final finishing. After delivery, one complimentary alteration is included within seven days for minor adjustments — Kolkata clients visit the studio for this. Where a fit issue arises from measurements supplied by the client rather than taken by our team, alteration charges may apply.
We are at P-47, Swami Swarupananda’s Ashram Sarani, behind VIP Market in Kankurgachi — convenient from Salt Lake, Ultadanga, Maniktala, Beleghata and Lake Town, and a short ride from Phoolbagan metro on the Green Line. Open Monday to Saturday, 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
We take a full set at the studio: bust, upper bust, waist, shoulder, armhole, sleeve length and circumference, front and back neck depth, and blouse length. Taking them ourselves is the single biggest factor in a blouse that fits, which is why we prefer an in-studio session over measurements sent by message.
A standard bespoke blouse takes two to four weeks from confirmation. Heavily embroidered or embellished blouses take four to six weeks, since the surface work is done by hand.
Yes. Bring it in and we will pattern from it, then refine the fit further. This is often the fastest route to a reliable, repeatable block for future commissions.
