At On Grain Studio, every bridal piece is designed from a blank page and cut to your measurements alone — no sample sizes, no alterations to someone else's pattern. Our atelier sits in Kankurgachi, a short ride from Phoolbagan metro, and welcomes brides from across Kolkata.

Bespoke means the design conversation comes first. We begin by talking about the ceremony, the venue, the time of day, the jewellery you plan to wear and how you want to feel while wearing it. Only then do we move to silhouette, fabric and embroidery. The result is a garment that belongs to your celebration rather than a season's trend.

Because each piece is individually drafted, there is no restriction on size, proportion or body shape. A garment cut to your measurements sits correctly at the shoulder, waist and hip without the compromises that off-the-rack sizing forces.

Craft: Hand Embroidery and Surface Work

Embroidery is where a bespoke bridal piece separates itself. Our atelier works in hand embroidery, three-dimensional floral beadwork and sequin work — techniques applied by hand, thread by thread, rather than machine-run in bulk. Motifs can be drawn to reference something personal: a flower from your family garden, a pattern from your mother's wedding saree, an architectural detail from the venue.

This work takes time, and we would rather be honest about that than rush it. Heavily embellished pieces sit in production for four to six weeks. Simpler bespoke garments take two to four weeks.

The Bridal Timeline

Three to four months before

Book your first consultation. We discuss the ceremonies, look at references, and talk budget openly so the design brief is realistic from the start.

Two to three months before

Design is finalised, fabric is sourced, measurements are taken at the studio and production begins once the design and advance are confirmed.

Four to six weeks before

Fittings. This is where a bespoke garment earns its cost — we adjust the fit on your body, not on a mannequin, and refine until the drape is correct.

Two weeks before

Final delivery, with time in hand for any last adjustment. One complimentary alteration is included within seven days of delivery.

Visiting the Studio

Bridal consultations are held at our Kankurgachi studio, open Monday to Saturday, 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. We ask brides to book in advance so a stylist can give the session undivided attention — a first bridal consultation usually runs an hour or more.

Bring anything that helps: reference images, jewellery you plan to wear, fabric you love, photographs of the venue. If you are travelling from outside Kolkata, tell us when you book and we will group your fittings into fewer visits.

How far in advance should I book my bridal outfit in Kolkata?

We recommend beginning three to four months before your wedding date. Heavily embellished and bridal pieces take four to six weeks in production alone, and starting early leaves comfortable room for design decisions, fabric sourcing and two or more fittings without pressure.

Do you make outfits for all the Bengali wedding ceremonies?

Yes. We design for the full sequence of ceremonies including Aiburobhat, Gaye Holud, the wedding day itself, Bou Bhat and the reception. Many brides commission a coordinated set so that colours, embroidery motifs and silhouettes carry through the celebrations.

How many fittings are included?

Bridal commissions normally include multiple fittings across the production period, plus one complimentary alteration within seven days of delivery for minor adjustments. Kolkata-based brides visit our Kankurgachi studio for these sessions.

Can you work with my own fabric or a family heirloom saree?

Yes. We regularly restructure heirloom Benarasi sarees and family textiles into contemporary silhouettes. Bring the fabric to your consultation so we can assess its condition, weight and drape before finalising a design.
